Public sector workers should not expect a pay rise this year
Enda Kenny indicated it is unlikely this year that there will be a reversal of the cuts to public sector pay.
Speaking to political correspondents, Kenny said economic recovery is the government’s priority and would be taken into account in any talks about public sector pay or increases to the minimum wage.
A survey by Ibec found half of companies in Ireland plan to give their staff pay rises this year. Small businesses were quick to pipe up about this, saying they won’t be part of the 50% giving their employees wage increases in 2015.
It seems those on minimum wage and public sector workers can forget about it also, though Kenny said the government will act on recommendations made by the Low Pay Commission.
